What is a big difference betwwen shampoo for drugstores and one from salons?

i got long hair and i really need nice shampoo...but should i buy at salon? do they carry really better product??????? or just similar the one at drug-mart?What is a big difference betwwen shampoo for drugstores and one from salons?
Look at the ingredients list. That is actually what matters. Compare a salon brand to a store brand and try to find a store brand that has the same ingredients. Avoid alcohol and formaldehyde (oh yes, you will find them).

If you color your hair, that's a whole different subject. Colored hair actually does need the best shampoo you can afford just to keep the color from fading.

Another thing you can do for healthy hair is not to put heat on it except when absolutely necessary, get regular trims, and wash it in the coolest water you can stand. What is a big difference betwwen shampoo for drugstores and one from salons?
No big difference between the two. Having said that, there is definitely a difference in the conditioners. Put your money into the conditioner and go to a salon for it. They can look at your hair and give you a great product that will match your hair type. Shampoos remove dirt and oil, that is their job. The conditioners add to it and give you the desired look.

I have very dry blonde hair, so when I go into the grocery store I would buy dove conditioner and shampoo. My mom uses VO5 and it does not work well like some other shampoos and conditioners its more water then product. Also if you want to pay a lower price for shampoo and conditioner that are found in the salons go to your local tjmaxx they started selling them last year at my store.
Lower priced products typically contain more sodium laurel/ sodium laureth sulfate, which is a fairly harsh detergent. If you have straighter normal to oily hair then this is likely not a big deal. If you have coarser, curlier or drier hair then it can be really damaging. I have been told my hair dresser that a high end conditioner is really a better splurge than a high end shampoo as long as you are not over washing your hair (more than once every other day).
I've tried the expensive ones and the cheap ones, and I have really long hair too. The best one to get if you want something cheaper is Loreal vive pro, I use the one for dry hair and it makes my hair so silky and smooth, if you want to go for a little more expensive one I really like paul mitchell super skinny shampoo and conditioner... the best way to find out though is trial and error honestly to see what works best for you.
the REAL difference is salon shampoos are highly concentrated which means you wont need to use alot for each shampoo. the clear kind of shampoo will strip any color in yr hair the cream shampoo puts moisture into yr hair. some shampoos give you a build up the cheaper you pay the less results you had intended.
Salon products have a better ph balance. Some drugstore products compare well for a short time but in a while will build up waxy residue on your hair. Find a stylist that you trust and ask there opinion. Give them your price range and they will usually help you find a good product without paying a fortune.
I'm pretty sure they're about the same, if you get the right brands from the drugstore.

I use this horse shampoo. It smells nice, makes my hair shiny, soft, healthy, and not greasy or frizzy. It's starts with a C, like Callberno or something like that, and they sell it at Wal Mart. But, be careful, it makes your hair grow insanely fast.

Also, Herbal Essences is nice too.
lmao like everyone else said the price! top quality or low quality rated shampoos don't really matter. I've tried high end and low end and still haven't found a great shampoo. just shop around an avoid any shampoo with sulfate laurly(sp) it's the same thing they use in detergent.
shampoo from a salon is always good quality and a stylist can show you which is better for you, if you ask. shampoo from drugstore/ grocery store is watered down, and cheaper.
Yes the salon is much better products but also more expensive. If your hair is salon treated...like full dyed then go with salon products, they mostureize your hair better.

But most stuff from the drug stores will work fine. Just no Swave, or Save crap.
my mom is a cosmetolegist and she says that it weighs your hair down. i've used both and i can tell what shes talking about. it also doesnt get rid of build up as good.
I think that goes both way's...I really think you can get good one;s in the drug stores...And i think there are some good ones in salon...But in these hard times i buy in drug store...Check out total beauty where they grade products....

the difference is the Price. Im convinced they all work the same.
Price really. I have used both and find that stores like walmart carry stuff that is just as good as the salon.
sally beauty supplies has many salon shampoo at a good price.
The difference is the price. But it is what ever you prefer.
it cost about 10dollarsmore....aholes
